Cosmetic Veneers

This patient attended the practice complaining about the cosmetic look of his upper front two teeth.  A few years earlier, he had traumatised his front teeth and broke them both. The nerve was removed in one tooth which subsequently became discoloured and the other tooth had a large filling in it, which had become stained. After discussing the treatment options, a plan was made to place 2 natural looking porcelain veneers on the front teeth. We achieved an excellent result! Before After           Smile At Belmont Park Dental Care, we offer dental veneers and cosmetic dentistry in Lewisham, Blackheath, Lee and Greenwich.

Dental Implants

When someone loses their teeth, it does not only affect the ability to chew properly but can affect ones self-confidence, whilst smiling. Often a patient will attend the dental practice not being able to smile properly, or holding a hand over their mouth. It is important that if a patient would like to get these missing teeth replaced, they should discuss all the options with their dentist. The best way to get fixed teeth (that are as close to natural teeth as possible) is with dental implants. The implant dentist at Belmont Park Dental Care, Dr Rumit Desai, discusses a recent case: Mr G. attended the dental practice in mid 2015, complaining of a loose bridge on his front teeth that was fitted 15 years ago. Examination revealed that the teeth supporting the bridge had broken to gum level and thus the bridge could not be saved. After discussing all the options, Mr G. decided he wanted dental implants (because they are fixed) placed. The broken teeth were easily removed and a removable denture was placed. Mr G. did not like the removable denture, as he found it was bulky and plastic. However, he wore it for 3 months whilst the bone healed. 3 months later, a full examination and x-rays were taken to confirm the bone had healed and there was adequate space to place dental implants. Three dental implants were placed painlessly in the top jaw under local anaesthetic. After a further 10 weeks for the implant to heal with the bone, fixed teeth were made by the laboratory and fitted into the dental implants.     Mr G. discusses his experience in the video below: Dental implants are NOT “fit and forget”. It is extremely important to floss and brush them at least once a day. The

Top Tips for Looking after your Teeth over XMAS

Xmas is an indulgent time, where sweet food is plentiful. So we shall share some tips on keeping your teeth healthy!           1.Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one time during the day with a fluoride toothpaste - Spit out after brushing and do not rinse, so that the fluoride stays on                 your teeth for longer!           2. After eating, wait for an hour before brushing your teeth - Sweet food and drinks can soften the tooth enamel, so try not to brush straight after eating as this may wear the                            enamel away.       3. Use dental floss or interdental brushes to clean between your teeth once a day - Only 21% of people clean between their teeth regularly!          4. Reduce the frequency of consumption of sugary foods and drinks - This will help your saliva recover after a sugar/acid attack          5. Drink water, eat some cheese or chew sugar free gum after meals - This helps to neutralise and clear away the sugar after meals   These tips should help your mouth to stay healthy over the XMAS period!

Scared of the Dentist?

Dental Phobia. Dental phobia usually occurs after bad experiences when visiting the dentist. However, due to modern numbing agents and sedation this phobia does not have to stop someone from seeing the dentist. Many nervous patients, cannot even sit in the chair. By managing patients in a slow concise manner, perceptions can really change. If this does not work, treatment under intra-venous sedation (twilight) is possible. IV sedation consists of: placing a sedative (midazolam) type drug into the back of the hand. This drug acts by reducing anxiety and giving a level of amnesia (approximately 45 minutes). In this time frame the dental procedure can be completed effectively. Hence the reason why it is often called 'twilight sedation'. After the procedure is completed and the patient is fit for discharge, a friend or family member will escort the patient home and for 24 hours afterwards rest is required before a normal routine is returned to.
